302 Three hallmarks of meta modern leadership

I am reflecting on the loss of a colleague and friend, Marcelo Silveira. I had the privilege of getting to know Marcelo when he first arrived from Brazil to work with us at Outward Bound. I mentored and trained him and he went on to be a senior leader for the organisation and then a stalwart in the industry ever since. He died in a caving abseiling accident, on-the-job as a senior instructor. His passing has been an important wake up call to reach out to those you care about and to let them know how you feel. Marcelo had such a lust for life. If I take anything from his passing, it is that life is very short and we need to live it fully, on our own terms.

Marcelo died after I recorded this episode where I reflect on how lovely it is when loose or lost connections come back into our lives. My old friend, Gary Monkman, happened to reach out to me after 20 years. Then it’s a deep dive into meta modern leadership, the three hallmarks of a meta modern leader and three practical exercises that will help develop these characteristics. Plus two book recommendations and a reminder of balance in all things - we can be both sensible and sensitive, wise and compassionate. There’s always more than one pathway to choose.
